It is called Lockdown Mode in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura to safeguard high-risk users against \u201chighly targeted cyberattacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-202 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/codelogicx.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-732x1024.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.codelogicx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-732x1024.jpg 732w, https:\/\/blog.codelogicx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/blog.codelogicx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-768x1075.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.codelogicx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware.jpg 948w\" alt=\"Lockdown Mode\" width=\"640\" height=\"895\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-4\">Apple detailed two initiatives to help protect users who may be personally targeted by some of the most sophisticated digital threats, such as those from private companies developing state-sponsored mercenary spyware. Lockdown Mode \u2014 the first major capability of its kind, coming this fall with iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura \u2014 is an extreme, optional protection for the very small number of users who face grave, targeted threats to their digital security.<\/p>\n<h3 data-rm-block-id=\"block-5\"><strong>At launch, Lockdown Mode includes the following protections:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-6\"><strong>\u2022 Messages:<\/strong>\u00a0Most message attachment types other than images are blocked. Some features, like link previews, are disabled.<br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Web browsing<\/strong>: Certain complex web technologies, like just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compilation, are disabled unless the user excludes a trusted site from Lockdown Mode.<br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Apple services:<\/strong>\u00a0Incoming invitations and service requests, including FaceTime calls, are blocked if the user has not previously sent the initiator a call or request.<br \/>\n\u2022 Wired connections with a computer or accessory are blocked when iPhone is locked.<br \/>\n\u2022 Configuration profiles cannot be installed, and the device cannot enroll into mobile device management (MDM), while Lockdown Mode is turned on.<\/p>\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-7\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-219 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/codelogicx.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-1-1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.codelogicx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-1-1.jpg 495w, https:\/\/blog.codelogicx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/mercenary-spyware-1-1-170x300.jpg 170w\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"875\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-8\">\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-9\">It\u2019s worth noting that the feature will not be switched on by default, but can be accessed by heading to Settings &gt; Privacy &amp; Security &gt; Lockdown Mode.<\/p>\n<p data-rm-block-id=\"block-10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/newsroom\/2022\/07\/apple-expands-commitment-to-protect-users-from-mercenary-spyware\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a>\u00a0will continue to strengthen Lockdown Mode and add new protections to it over time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple Claims &#8216;Lockdown Mode&#8217; Protects Against Spyware Apple is previewing a groundbreaking security capability that offers specialized additional protection to users who may be at risk of highly targeted cyberattacks from private companies developing state-sponsored mercenary spyware.
